"We already have chips that are actually designed completely end to end in India and we are shipping those globally," Savi Soin, president of Qualcomm India, told CNBC. "We have a lot of engineers here doing end-to-end chip design." An integral part of the semiconductor manufacturing process, chip design defines the requirements for the chip's architecture and system, as well as how individual circuits will be laid out on the chip. More than 62.2 million voters will choose among 950 contestants in Tamil Nadu. The DMK won the Tamil Nadu state elections in 2021, defeating the incumbent AIADMK. Prominent poll strategist Prashant Kishor reportedly said he expects the BJP to get "double digit" vote share in Tamil Nadu. Though the jump in vote share in Tamil Nadu will be substantial compared with 2019, BJP might just win one or two constituencies, Kumar said. Seated opposite from him was Geetha, a Modi supporter, who said: "Modi is superman, but DMK will sweep Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi/London CNN —In just a few days, India will commence the world’s largest democratic election. So, is the hype around Modi’s India, which remains a largely impoverished country, justified? The world’s largest biometric database has also helped the government save millions by reducing corruption in welfare initiatives. Domestic investors, both retail and institutional, have been driving India’s stock market to unprecedented peaks. Still, India’s economy, much like its democracy, is far from perfect.

India wants to be among the world's top five semiconductor producers in the next five years, said Ashwini Vaishnaw, minister of electronics and information technology, railways and communications. The chip industry "is a very complex market, and global value chains and global supply chains are extremely complex in the current context," Vaishnaw said on CNBC's Street Signs Asia on Friday. As of December, Taiwan holds about 46% of global semiconductor foundry capacity, followed by China (26%), South Korea (12%), the U.S. (6%) and Japan (2%), according to market intelligence firm TrendForce. I call it 'trust shoring' because there is a global trust in India," Vaishnaw said. "A lot of our chips are designed in India, and that presence in India is also creating opportunities for a number of Indian companies."

The market value of companies listed on India’s exchanges crossed $4 trillion in late November. But the country is stuck in recession and recently lost its position as the world’s third biggest economy to Germany. While interest in the world’s fifth largest economy is rising, the lofty prices of India’s stocks are scaring some international investors away. According to Macquarie, retail investors alone own 9% of India’s equity market value versus foreign investors at slightly under 20%. China “has a few too many companies which are $100 and $200 billion plus [in value],” Mittal said.
